This week, Year 3 investigated how the strength of a force affects the way an object moves. We explored the idea that a force is a push or a pull and discovered that forces can change an object's speed, direction and motion.
Using a range of practical activities, the children tested how different amounts of force impacted the movement of objects. They observed that a greater contact force often caused an object to accelerate more quickly, resulting in a higher velocity. We discussed how the strength of a force can affect the distance an object travels and the speed at which it moves.
The children worked scientifically by making predictions, carrying out fair tests, recording observations and discussing their results using accurate scientific vocabulary, including force, contact force, strength, impact, acceleration, velocity and motion.
We were very impressed with the children's curiosity, teamwork and excellent scientific thinking throughout the investigation!
