We have been working in teams to build a bridge that reaches over a 70cm gap and can hold a 100g weight. The teams need to think carefully about how the structure of their bridge will support the weight and how they can build something that reaches all the way to the other side.

Year 6 had an amazing time at our virtual author workshop with Maisie Chan!
Our pupils were fully engaged as they explored what it takes to become a writer, from developing characters to sparking imaginative ideas. The session was packed with fun, interactive activities that inspired creativity and lots of brilliant questions from our budding authors.
A huge thank you to Maisie Chan for such an inspiring and enjoyable workshop – Year 6 are feeling motivated and excited to write!

What a fantastic History Day Yesterday!
Pupils in Year 6 travelled all the way back to the Stone Age, discovering how people lived long ago. They created brilliant fact files about Stone Age animals, explored the mystery of Stonehenge, and got creative with some cave painting fun in the classroom.
We finished the day by learning about our local history, helping pupils make connections between the past and the place we live today. A day full of curiosity, creativity, and brilliant historical thinking!

It was great to see the sun shining on Wednesday. The year 5 pupils enjoyed the winter sunshine in their forest school sessions. They are a very creative year group and have made some excellent clay models. The bracelet making is very popular too. I have seen excellent team work and cooperation in making shelters and dens. This week some pupils helped to plant willow sticks that hopefully will grow into a willow tunnel.

What an amazing day of learning! We stepped back in time to Ancient Egypt, writing coded messages to each other using hieroglyphics and then challenging ourselves to decode them.
We also became engineers for the day, planning, designing and building pyramids using a range of resources including paper straws, playdough, pipe cleaners and tin foil. The children had to think carefully about structure and stability, test ideas, solve problems and make improvements along the way.
This hands-on learning encouraged creativity, critical thinking, resilience and teamwork, with lots of discussion, cooperation and brilliant ideas shared throughout the day. A fantastic mix of history, design, engineering and collaboration!

🍬Playground Tuck Shop – This Friday! 🍬
Our Dunchurch site (KS1) will be hosting a playground tuck shop after school this Friday, and everyone is welcome to pop by for an end‑of‑week treat!
Please bring small change, as treats will start from 50p.
We will have our card machines available too - but a little heads‑up… they can be a bit temperamental at times 😅💳

In science, Year 1 have been busy investigating melting and freezing. They made predictions before carrying out an experiment to discover the fastest way to melt ice and rescue a toy trapped inside. They tested their hands, a blanket, warm water, and a paper towel to see which method worked best. They then recorded their results. They had lots of fun!

Year Three enjoyed taking their RE learning outside, we hot seated and role-played the shepherds. We pretended to be the shepherds and took turns answering questions. We thought of questions to ask the shepherds and listened carefully to the answers.
We talked about how the shepherds might have felt and why. We tried to understand their thoughts and feelings and showed empathy. We shared our ideas as a class.

In English, Year 1 have been learning how to write instructions. We explored bossy verbs and the key features of instructional writing. Using ingredients to make a jam sandwich, the children had to tell us exactly how to make it. They quickly learned that being specific is important, otherwise the whole loaf of bread might end up on the plate, the butter could be spread on the table, or the entire block of butter placed on the bread! They had great fun and produced some fantastic writing!
