Today we came together as a school family to take part in a special Lent livestream with Dan and Emily from One Life Music, alongside thousands of children from schools across the country. During the livestream, the children joined in with joyful songs, listened to scripture, and learned more about the different aspects of Lent. It was a wonderful opportunity for us to pause, reflect and begin our Lenten journey together in prayer and song.

A special highlight on World Book Day was welcoming a visiting author to the KS1 site, who spent time with the children and read her wonderful story, Tinie’s Big Adventure. The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story and were fully engaged throughout the session.

A portion from each purchase is given to the Rugby dog rescue charity Pawprints, making this a lovely way to support both reading and a meaningful cause.

Happy World Book Day 2026!
Year 6 had a fantastic day celebrating the joy of reading. Pupils dressed up as characters from their favourite books and shared a special Read Together session with Year 4, bringing stories to life and enjoying a book chosen by the Year 6 class.
We also explored the wonderful world of David Walliams, discovering his incredible talent for creating fun and unforgettable characters. To end the day on a creative note, we entered the National Book Token Design Competition — what a brilliant way to celebrate books and imagination!

Request for any unwanted, used books.
We would be grateful for donations of used books for our school library. Many pupils have books at home that are in good condition, but which they have outgrown. Donating these books to school would greatly benefit our school community.
This week, our school librarians added over 50 donated, pre-loved books to our Merttens library. These books are an exciting addition to our library and they offer children an even greater choice of titles.
Donated books can be handed into either school office. Thank you for your support in promoting sharing and reading.

We are really looking forward to World Book Day tomorrow with lots of exciting things happening during the day.
Children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character, we are having a special lunch menu and our Book Fair will be running all week after school on the Merttens Drive Site. We can't wait to see some amazing costumes!
